5 Things I love About Being Your Own Fitness Business Boss!
by Nikki Layton
Fitness professionals love to be the boss!
Being your own boss is the greatest thing in the world.

Here are 5 of the things that I love about it:
- No one tells you what to do
- You get to control the direction of the fitness business
- You set your own hours
- You don’t have to play politics and kiss a**
- You create your own worth and get rewarded for your actions
While all of these points are absolutely true some of them have a little grey area that we should look at so that you can maximize your fitness business in terms of quality of life and income generation.
Let’s look quickly at each of those points and see what happens in the real world:

1. When no one is telling you what to do it is easy to get off track or just forget to take care of the basics of the business. Maybe you are making enough to pay the bills so you get lazy and stop growing your business. It doesn’t matter how big or small of a business that you run, coaching with accountability is an amazing thing. I am doing a year-long CEO growth course and it has been amazing and humbling all at the same time. I have been surprised to find myself doing the last minute cram for projects and presentations! If I didn’t have that deadline I don’t think they would ever quite get done.
2. Controlling the direction of your fitness business is a REWARD. Find the niche you love and find what your differentiating factor in that niche is. It is not enough to say that you love to train athletes you need something that you do better than all the other trainers in your area that are wanting to capture that niche. Whether it is housewives, weekend warriors or athletes. How can you be different?
3. Yes, you can set you own hours but in the real world other people have to punch a time clock and if you want them to be able to utilize your services before or after they make their money, so they can pay you, you are going to have to think about when the people in your niche actually have free time. Unfortunately this is going to dictate somewhat when you will have to work.
4. No you don’t have to play politics! However you have to provide excellent customer service, behave like a pro and network, network, network. Need I say more?
5. You create your worth through hard work, work hard and you will see results! If you aren’t there is a good chance you might be working hard but not on the right things! Get some help to make sure your focus and energy is on the right thing. Stay positive and keep going! Don’t try and re-invent the wheel you will only make things harder and more complicated than they need to be.
I hope these 5 things that I love about running your own fitness business will help you and that you have the success that you deserve.
