How to Lose Weight and Keep It Off
If you’re realizing that you want to better yourself but getting your body into shape, then you’ve come to the right place. The decision to take care of your body is a great one, with nothing but benefits to come. As you begin a new and healthier life, you’ll experience a whole new, and better you! As your body improves, you’ll find that so will your mentality. We all can use a pick-me-up, and that comes right along with taking care of yourself!
The first step before you do anything should be talking to your doctor. Explain to them that you want to start a diet and exercise plan. Express your goals and give yourself a reasonable time frame to reach your goals in. Your doctor will help you determine your limits, and they will give you crucial guidelines. As great of a thing as it is to lose weight and decide to take care of yourself, if you’re currently unhealthy, you need to be careful. While trying to better yourself, you can actually put your body into shock if you’re not careful. Seeing your doctor is a crucial preventative measure.
Your second step should be to rid your house of all things bad. This means getting rid of sugary, fatty foods. Your doctor should give you a list of things to cut out of your diet. These things should also be taken out of your home so you do not feel the pressure to eat these bad things. Let’s be honest, if there is cake in the kitchen, it’s tempting to go have some. It’s natural! With it not even being in your house, it’s not in your sight, and thus, more likely to not be on your mind. You should pull up charts off the Internet that enforce a better diet. You can also see a nutritionist for a personalized diet plan.
Be sure to keep your diet plan in mind when you go out to eat! Just because you’re out does not mean you can “slip up” on your diet.
Ease yourself into exercise. Start walking and maybe even running a little bit. Make sure you have the proper shoes for this, or you’ll be in some bad pain. Join a gym, buy home exercise equipment; just do something! It’s great motivation if you have someone with you, too! You can motivate each other to go for a run or walk, instead of sitting in front of the TV. You also can set times to go to the gym with your partner. Do not allow yourself or the other person to say “maybe tomorrow, or next week”, because you know that isn’t going to happen. If it doesn’t happen NOW, it’s not going to happen!
Get on a schedule. Plan out your meals and when you’ll eat them at home. Also, bring prepared food to work with you. It saves money and saves you from making poor meal-decisions. Try to work out and exercise at least 3-4 times a week. We all have lives, so it’s understandable that everyday is not practical. You should always give your body a day or two off when you start exercising. This prevents damage and shock. Ease into it.
Don’t obsess with scales. Remember water weight and muscle.
You can treat yourself to a snack you like once a week, but no more! Exercising or not eating a meal will not make up for the extra treat. Have this weekly treat be a small one, and choose wisely! It’ll be a whole other week before you can have another! A very small piece of cake, 3 regular sized cookies, half a honey bun, etc. Keep proportions small, and remember that you don’t have to leave your plate empty and clean. Make a point to keep some food on the plate, to minimize your intake.
If you’re conscious of your goals, you should do fine. Remind yourself of them often. Write them down and leave copies of them around your home. On the fridge door is a great place. So are mirrors! Remember that it isn’t impossible to lose your weight and be healthy. If you do have any problems or irregularities, see your doctor as soon as possible, just to be cautious.
