How to Get Motivated to Lose Weight
All of us face issues now and again where we desperately want to do something, yet lack the much needed motivation. This is key with some things; one of which is losing weight. Losing weight is a big decision on one’s part already, despite taking into consideration the necessary motivation.
Here are some things that can help you to find yourself not dreading your new chore called exercise:
Work With A Friend
Or make a new friend. If you have someone working out and exercising with you, this is motivation in and of itself! Instead of telling yourself you’ll work out tomorrow instead (which you know won’t happen), you’ll have that person there for you to say, “hey, get up, we have to do this! I’m doing it and so are you!” You can motivate the other person too. This is great for building up relationships as well. What you do want to avoid, however, is letting the other person slip. This will more than likely cause you to slip up. Meaning, if you let them have the day off from working out, you’ll probably be doing the same. Don’t let the buddy system go to waste. Motivate each other and keep it in mind to do so.
Set Aside Specific Exercise Time
If you’re working with a buddy on this, you’ll both need to get together and plan aside. Basically, set aside time in your day where you’re going to devote yourself to working out. With a plan in mind, it’s easier to stick to what you need to do. Also plan what days you’re going to work out. It’s understandable that not all of us can work out every single day. Plus, it’s good to give yourself a day or two off.
Keep A Reward In Mind
This serves as another motivational tool. If you really do not want to work out one day, set up a reward. Maybe watch a show you really like, or movie. Food should NOT be a motivational tool. Going out to dinner or lunch is perfectly alright, but keep in mind that you don’t want to be exercising for nothing! Reward yourself with anything you like. Maybe extra computer time, more time out with friends, going shopping, etc.
Watch TV or Listen To Music As You Exercise
This is a good distraction to keep your eyes and mind off the clock. It puts your mind in another place so you’re not focusing as hard on the work out itself.
Keep A Log
Keep a log of every time you exercise. Note how long you worked out and what you did. Anything else relevant is a good idea to jot down, too. Look back at your notes in a week or two and you’ll be quite proud of all the work you’ve accomplished for yourself. Being able to put aside some time in your week to work on yourself is great. Being able to see it on paper may help to realize you are working quite hard.
With these things in mind, you should be able to find yourself dreading your workout routine a little bit less. Feel free to post any comments with ideas of your own! Stay motivated out there!
